A Midsummer Night's Dream
The course of true love never did run smooth
Why see A Midsummer Night's Dream?
Love and Fairies
One of Shakespeare's most riotously fun and magical pieces that dazzles time and time again, A Midsummer Night's Dream returns to The Guthrie for the eighth time in this exciting new staging from Artistic Director Joseph Haj. A delightful and dizzying tale, it's time once more to enter a realm where a tiff between fairy royalty gets very out of hand, affecting supernatural folk and mortals alike.
What Is The Story?
A Midsummer Night's Dream focuses on three parallel stories while dealing with the universal theme of love and its complications. It follows the trials of two couples as they camp in a magical forest, the world of the fairy King and Queen who inhabit said forest, and a group of tradesmen attempting to stage a production of 'Pyramus and Thisby' for the wedding of the Duke of Athens. In true Shakespearean comedy style, these stories don't stay separate for long and worlds collide in a spectacularly hilarious fashion. Love, action, magic and comedy mix to create a truly magical spell.
