Why See A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thile?
garrison Keillor passes The Torch
Popular live variety radio show A Prairie Home Companion is saying a fond farewell to its creator and host Garrison Keillor. From 1974 through to 2016, Keillor reached a staggering 3.5 million listeners each week on 700 different public radio stations, making listeners laugh and satisfying their musical sweet teeth with a myriad musical guests. It may seem like an end of an era, but APHC fans need not worry as the show is in the safe hands of virtuoso mandolinist Chris Thile.
It may seem an eclectic choice, but having been guest of the show himself, multiple Grammy Award winner Thile is just the man for the job, openly and emphatically endorsed by predecessor Keillor. Known for musical outfits Nickel Creek and The Punch Brothers, the muso won't be getting rid of the show's humorous wordcraft, music or fake commercials, but instead will give its music more of an edge. Confirmed guests Jack White, Dawes and Esperanza Spalding are a testament to that.
